Four weeks into summer, someone other than G2 has sole control of first. MAD Lions is the best performing team in the league with only one defeat in seven matches. Misfits and G2 are in a four-way tie for third place along with Origen and SK Gaming.
G2 is not having the perfect season the team envisioned when it transferred Caps back to the mid lane. The team dropped three games to teams that are considered to be on a lower tier. It’s not that one player is underperforming or that G2 doesn’t has a grasp on the meta. It comes down to the little things. One play, one wrong call, and the enemy gets away with the win.
In week four, G2 will be starting P1noy in the bottom lane after Luka "Perkz" Perković decided to take time off. With P1noy in the roster, G2 has become a wild card in the LEC. It’s impossible to predict which version of G2 will show up to this match. If there was a time to take easier victories from G2, this might be it.
In 2019, Misfits signed a roster full of veterans, hoping to get good results. This roster crashed and burned early in the season, forcing Misfits to go for a completely different approach. Misfits started 2020 with a roster that combined veterans with fresh faces. With the addition of Kobbe in the offseason, Misfits is in the right position to achieve greatness in the LEC.
A team is often only as good as its jungler, and Misfits has a pretty great jungler. Razork joined Misfits after a successful career in the SuperLiga Orange, Spain’s national league. One and a half splits later, Razork is considered one of the best junglers in the LEC. The jungler is proactive from level one and is constantly looking for opportunities around the map. Razork goes for ganks, farms effectively, and scouts the enemy jungler. There’s nothing that this jungler can’t do, and because of him, Misfits has an edge this season.
On Winners.bet, G2 is the favorite to take the match at 1.43 compared to Misfits’ 2.62. While the odds tell one story, the outcome of this match might be completely different.
The key matchup is between Jankos and Razork. All stats put Jankos above Razork, but G2 is playing this series with a new player on its roster. Whatever Jankos managed to accomplish on a regular game, he might not be able to do it with P1noy.
Defeating G2 won’t be easy, but it’s not impossible. Misfits must disrupt the bottom lane and force G2 to play from behind. While this is happening, the solo laners must bring their "A" game and cut even with Caps and Wunder. G2 has improved its early game, but Misfits could still find an opening to attack.
G2 and Misfits play on July 3 at 3 PM CST.
