The passing of Antonio "cyx" Daniloski marked a turning point in the professional esports industry. Although the German Counter-Strike scene lost one of its most talented and promising players, it also reminded us of the mortality of the star players fans cheer for.

Never has there been such a tragic loss that sent shockwaves throughout the esports world as did the loss of cyx. Professional players, devoted fans, and even casual gamers mourned the loss. With esports still an early stage in its development, there hadn't been many such losses of life at the scene's core. Fans were not accustomed to seeing their favorite players gone.

Many other sports have lost promising players in the prime of their careers, from basketball’s Dražen Petrović to American football’s Sean Taylor. All of these untimely losses left hordes of fans mourning with a bitter thought of what could have been. Such is the story of cyx, a person taken from us just as he was reaching the prime of his own playing career.

Fans remember cyx and his accomplishments

An established German player, cyx spent his entire professional career playing under the mousesports banner. He joined the team together with another legend of the CS scene, Fatih "gob b" Dayik. A promising up-and-comer, he quickly made a name for himself as one of the most explosive and skilled AWPers in Europe.

With clean movement, superb aim, and often perfect timing, cyx climbed to the top of the CS ladder in short order.

During cyx's tenure with the team, mousesports won five EPS Germany titles in a row. The team was a force to be reckoned with on the international scene, proving on some occasions to be more than a match against the likes of Fnatic and Meet Your Makers.

Victories at Intel Extreme Masters II and the IEM IV European Championship stand as a testament to the team's strength with cyx in the lineup.

The core of the team’s success was in gob b’s strategic approach to the game and cyx’s nearly flawless execution.

But what defined cyx as a true legend of Counter-Strike was not just his game. He was regarded by many as one of the most joyful and friendly people to be around in the scene, even moving Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski to tears when the latter reminisced about his lost friend.

cyx tragically passed away on July 28, 2010 in a car accident at the young age of 20. He was returning home after missing the team’s flight to the Intel Extreme Masters Season V Global Challenge Shanghai.

To this day, numerous CS fans remember him fondly as a true legend of the game and as one of the biggest “what if” players in the short history of esports.
